The new documentary "Running on Fumes" by the Milwaukee based filmmaker, Jack LeFeber, is set to be releases in the spring, 2008. It addresses pressing questions such as:
Why are we dependant on the limited resource of petroleum based energy source? Can current transportation infrastructures adapt to renewable energy sources? How can countries benefit by reducing their dependence on foreign petroleum? Will bio-diesel or ethanol be the answer to cutting dependence on foreign petroleum? Can agriculture deal wit ha mass demand for bio-diesel and ethanol? Can America become self sufficient in their energy sources? What are the benefits and drawbacks to bio-fuel and ethanol?
According to the Renewable Fuels Association, the United States have the capacity to producing 5.1 billion gallons of ethanol per year in its 107 grain ethanol bio-refineries. It is estimated that it will eventually increase to around 35 billion gallons a year by 2017.
The film also studies the feasibility of other renewable fuels such as bio-diesel and hydrogen fuel cells. Filmmaker Jack LeFeber said “Through the course of filming, we’ve come across very recent research in Molecular Biology and Bio Sciences that literally blew me away. Some of this research has yet to be explained to the public.”
